AFSCME Council 52 was chartered by the
International Union in 1973.
It is charged with the responsibility of representing over 50
bargaining units. It’s
nearly 10 thousand members are spread over seven counties and the
state wide campuses of
The service staff headed by Director Richard Gollin and Associate Director Arthur C. Delo, Jr. provides day to day assistance and advice to local leadership in the Jersey City Office and at local sites. Services provided include the filing and processing of grievances and arbitrations and a major role in contract negotiations. Significant staff time is also spent seeking out and organizing unaffiliated public employees seeking the protection and support of a national labor union.
Under the direction of President Anna Sutton the Council sponsors two Delegate Assemblies per year. Ms. Sutton also convenes monthly sessions of the Council Executive Board a body essentially consisting of each Local’s elected President.
Beyond its service function the Council leadership strives to play a major role in the political life of the communities it represents. Council 52 has long provided its strong support to candidates of every level that share our vision of fairness for working men and women.
Now in its 34 year Council 52 will continue to
be in the forefront of the struggle for dignity in the workplace for
working people in the State of
